We don’t know about you guys, but we’re getting fed up of spending all week moaning about how we’re at work and how we can’t wait for the weekend to come around so we can do this, that and the other – then, when Saturday comes…we can’t think of anything to do with ourselves! Well loiter no more, because Atomic Threads are here to put an end to your wasted weekends and fill them with cool, retro goodness. We’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for up coming vintage home fairs, classic car shows, retro music events and whatever else we think you old school lovers will want to be in the know about, so you can make the most of your precious spare time! This time around we’ll be bringing you events that are happening over the next couple of months but we’ll keep you updated on events we’re excited about throughout the year, so make sure you don’t miss out!
To kick it all off, we’ve got an event perfect for G-plan junkies and furniture fiends…
The Vintage Home Show – Manchester – Sunday 9th June
We stumbled across this a few months ago and we’ve been counting down the days ever since! The Vintage Home Show Manchester is held at the very apt Victoria Baths and holds 40 dealers of “furniture, lighting, art, glass, soft furnishings, ceramics and much, much, more…”! The show has only been running since last year, but due to the huge response they received they had no choice but to hold more and more across the UK to cater for all us retro nuts! 😀 It costs just £3 to get in and is open 11am – 4pm – plenty of time to spend this month’s wages (and the rest!). If you don’t live close to Manchester or already have plans this Sunday, no need to panic – there are another 3 Vintage Home Shows scheduled for this year in Bristol, London and again in Manchester. So, if you want to get your hands on some rare treasures, make sure you don’t miss this homeware haven!
Next up we’ve found an event which brings together all the retro shopping from above and mixes it with music, fashion and entertainment to bring you a unique day of vintage fun…
Secret Vintage Fair – Central Ipswich – Saturday 29th June
The name may suggest a low-key private affair, but judging by the countless write-ups and mentions this event has had since it’s debut in August last year, you can expect nothing less than a jam-packed day of vintage, family friendly fun! Each time a SVF comes around, it brings more and more to the Ercol table including fashion shows, war-time singers, pop up tea parlours and seller stalls galore! The organisers of the day really work hard to make this an authentic day full of entertainment instead of just focusing on the shopping aspect like regular vintage fairs tend to do – and regardless of all this the entry is only £1.50! Secret Vintage Fair supports a different charity each time, this time with proceeds going to the Ipswich St. Elizabeth Hospice. So make sure you don’t miss this fantastic day and remember – you need to follow the group on Facebook or Twitter to be in the know about the secret location of the up-coming events (usually announced a month or so before the day!).
Now if shopping and singing aren’t really your bag, we’ve got something that might just get your motor running and your rubber burning!…
Retro Car Show – Santa Pod Raceway – Sun 7th July
This weekend event is a must for any fans of retro rides, whether you’ve got your own or just like to dream – there’s something for everyone! The event gives the lucky ones who own a car or bike from decades gone by chance to push their ride to the max on the most famous quarter-mile of tarmac in Europe – as many times as they like for just £25 in the ‘RWYB’ (Run What Ya Brung) area! There’s also prizes for the best in category at the end of the weekend. If you don’t have a classic car or bike, there’s still an absolute tonne of stuff to see! The day boasts a drag racing strip, a Show & Shine competition, a new Trucks & Tractors category, Fireforce 3 – the world’s fastest jet car, an Auto Trader Cars For Sale paddock where you can buy or sell, fun fair rides, an all day bar (we’ll see you in there!) and later on the Sunday they’ll be giving away a 1959 Ford 100e Anglia that will have been completely revamped in the run up to the show! The show is also open on the Saturday for some early RWYB action and there are Saturday night camping tickets available, with evening entertainment and a bar. All information on the event is listed on Retro Car Show website 🙂
And finally, an event that mixes awesome live music, American hot rods, sexy ladies and stalls of cool stuff to buy…
Rock Ridge Rumble Weekender – County Durham – 2nd-4th August
If V Festival, Glastonbury and Download aren’t really your thing and you don’t fancy spending your life savings on going to a festival this year – check out Rock Ridge Rumble! It’s 3 days of amazing Rockabilly style live music, a massive display of classic cars and American hot rods, music stands and clothes stalls – as well as a cheap bar, a selection of food stands and FREE camping! It’s suitable for the whole family and costs just £60 per adult for the weekend and £10 for kids aged 5-16 (you can also get a discount of £10 if you’ve got your own classic car you want to display!). It’s the only place you’ll find all this rockabilly revelry all in one fun filled weekend so get yourselves down to Country Durham this August! 😀
So, no more excuses for wasting your weekends and complaining you’ve got nothing to do – get some vintage and retro in your life this summer, people! 😀 We’ve also got a great range of t-shirts for you all to wear so make sure you check them out!
